Swimbabes offer a wide range of services for parents wanting their babies to swim. We offer babies swimming session across Yorkshire and Derbyshire and we also have an online shop with a wide range of baby swim essentials, and lots of little luxuries for baby too so don’t be too tempted.

Babies can begin swimming from as young as 4 weeks and many children who attend baby swimming sessions can swim across a pool independantly by the age of 3. This linked with their ability to return to the side when they jump in and orientate themselves in the water make early babies swimming a true gift for life. Babies have a natural affinity with water, and swimming can be a great way of promoting their development, especially their cardio-vascular system. Baby swimming classes use this affinity along with a baby’s natural gag reflex to introduce basic water safety and early swimming skills.

When a baby is submerged in water their “gag reflex” allows them to hold their breath and prevents water from entering their lungs. Babies swimming classes use this relfex to get the baby used to submerged swims. The Holistic approach of Swimbabes gives the babies the opportunity to say no to submerging if they need to. Not only does babies swimming promote development of baby’s cardio-vascular system but they also increase baby’s muscle strengh and posture – helping them to sit and stand quicker!
